Observatory Catalogue · Sessions
Three sessions.
Three different places to start.
Each session is designed around a specific kind of need — for those just beginning, for those planning an outing, and for those who want to follow a single subject further. None of them assume prior knowledge.

Which session is for you
If you are not sure which session fits, look at what you are actually trying to do. The session titles are descriptions, not levels — someone who has some background but has never planned a proper observation outing belongs in Session II, not Session III.
If you are still not sure, write to us before booking. A short note about what you want to understand is enough to suggest the right fit.
Session I
Beginner Astronomy Guidance Session
A starting session for those who are new to night-sky observation. Conducted online or at a partnered viewing site within selected service areas in Japan.
The guide walks through reading a simple star chart, identifying a small set of seasonal constellations visible from Japan, and understanding how the sky shifts through the year. No equipment is required, though binoculars or a small telescope are welcome. A written companion guide with suggested viewing nights is provided afterward.
What is included
Session matched to your knowledge level and location in Japan
Star chart reading — how to orient yourself under any sky
Seasonal constellations visible from Japan — a small focused set
Written companion guide with viewing suggestions for the coming weeks
No equipment required — the session works without any
Session investment
¥10,500
Session II
Night Sky Observation Planning
A planning service for visitors and residents arranging a dedicated observation outing — whether for a meteor shower, a planetary alignment, or a quiet first-time visit to a darker-sky region.
The planner reviews seasonal conditions, recommends accessible viewing spots within reach of major travel hubs, and prepares a viewing brief covering equipment notes, weather backup considerations, and a focused object list for the evening. Suitable for individuals, families, and small groups.
What is included
Seasonal condition review for your planned outing date
Recommended viewing spots accessible from major travel routes in Japan
Equipment notes and weather backup planning
A focused object list for the outing — what to look for and when
Suitable for individuals, families, and small groups
Session investment
¥19,500
Session III
Topic Exploration Consultation
A one-to-one session for visitors who want to read further into a single astronomy topic — black holes, exoplanet research, the history of solar observation, the lifecycle of stars — without committing to a full course.
The session sets out the current state of understanding, the open questions, and a reading map of accessible articles, books, and lectures matched to the participant's background. Written notes with references and suggested next steps are delivered afterward. Designed for self-directed learners.
What is included
Session focused on one topic chosen by you
Current state of understanding and open questions in the field
Reading map — articles, books, lectures matched to your background
Written summary with full references and suggested next steps
Suited to self-directed learners at any level of prior knowledge
Session investment

Not sure yet
Write before you book
If you are uncertain which session fits, a short message with a description of what you are curious about is enough. We will suggest the right session, or explain why a different combination might serve you better.
There is no commitment involved in asking. Sessions are only confirmed once you have had a chance to understand what each one covers.
A few questions to help
Have you looked at a star chart before?
If no — Session I. If yes but you have never planned a proper outing — Session II might be a good step.
Are you planning a specific event — meteor shower, eclipse, planetary alignment?
Session II is built around preparation for a specific outing, including site selection and a viewing brief.
Do you have a topic you have been reading around and want to understand more rigorously?
Session III is for going deeper on a single subject — with a reading map and written notes to keep.
What all sessions share
Common to every session, regardless of which you choose
Before
A short conversation first
A brief exchange to understand your background before the session. The session content is shaped from there.
During
Your pace, your questions
Sessions do not follow a fixed script. Questions are expected, and the pace is set by what you need.
After
Written notes to keep
Every session is followed by written material specific to what was covered — not a generic handout.
Always
No equipment assumed
Sessions work with whatever you have. Nothing is assumed except genuine interest.
